The ON1Y One Contest

The Only one Contest was held @ 688 Skatepark Feb. 24 2007 and Friday, March 2. Here’s a little background on what it was all about. Sat. Feb. 24 the Only One contest took place at 688. This was an outside event which means that it wasn't 688 Skatepark's event we just offered our facility to host the all ages contest. This whole ordeal wasn't signed sealed and delivers but only a few weeks before the contest date. The hype was that "The Only One Contest" would draw 500 Skaters. As a skatepark owner and skateboarder I knew this number wasn't going to be the turnout. We had a total of 17 Skaters compete in the event. Due to the lack of Time the Only one Company had to promote the event. Regardless of the turnout the contest went on. The Top 7 from Feb 24 was invited back to compete in the Finals Friday Night March 3. The cool thing about the top 7 coming back was the fact that each skater one $150 and a chance to compete for $500 cash and a spot at the Tampa Bay Fest at the Raymond James Stadium March 3 and 4. 

Friday Night Finals went off. 7 Skaters destroyed the park. The format we came up with was great for the event. We picked 5 obstacles in the park and had a 5 minute jam on each obstacle. Then at the end each skater took 2- 45 second runs. The winner was decided at the end based on how he skated each obstacle and how good his Final Runs were. The man of the night that killed the park was none other than 688's own Jimmy Mastercolo. $500 Richer, Jimmy will be skating at Raymond Jams stadium March 4th and 5th with legend Christian Hosoi and others. Oh yea almost forgot, Hosoi was at 688 during the Jam. I barley recognized him he definitely cleaned up his image from the 80's. He ripped then and I can't wait to see new footage of him. Stephen Baldwin was here as well. I think he's famous and in movies? I’m not really sure.
