Day Camp 2

School of Skatin'
Developing young minds through skateboarding, education and fine arts.

Young children and teens have a natural attraction to exciting out-door activities like skateboarding.  It helps individuals to develop mental proficiency and physical dexterity on multiple levels, with lasting benefits for years to come.  Healthy physical activities, such as skateboarding, can have a significantly positive influence on a child by promoting self confidence and bolstering self esteem.
Skateboarding is intrinsically satisfying. Children naturally gravitate toward activities that involve rolling, turning, jumping and other such movements. The varying heights, speeds, and technical movements required in skateboarding help a child learn to calculate distances, solve problems, augment motor skills, and overcome fears.
Skateboarding does have rules which must be learned and followed, including unvarying physical rules, which come with real consequences. The sport also teaches principles that relate to individual safety and the safety of others.  Learning these fundamentals allows individuals to cultivate communication skills in a group setting through respect, independence, and support of others.
Educators understand that a child¢s success in school is often influenced heavily by early childhood experiences, which form and mold their self-concepts. Children need to have positive reinforcement through solving problems, attaining goals, and having control over the direction of their lives. The concepts that are learned practicing and then achieving a particular skill in skateboarding are just as important as the physical skill itself. A child who has succeeded in reaching goals and who interacts positively with others develops a strong sense of self-esteem.  This can encourage him or her to approach future situations with confidence and aim for success. Skateboarding can enhance one¢s ability to handle future life challenges by inspiring individuality and motivating accomplishment.

688 Skatepark firmly believes that skateboarding goes hand-in-hand with education and the Fine Arts. in 2008the creation of the School of Skatin' is our effort to begin offering programs in all three areas, which we believe will help children and young adults lead a positive and successful life.

Educators feel, and have observed, that student involvement in music and art programs have a positive impact on other areas of their lives. These educators will tell you that Fine Arts involvement improves a student's self-discipline, dexterity, coordination, self-esteem, thinking skills, listening skills, creative abilities and personal expression, in addition to skateboarding.
